What Affects Your Phone's Charging Speed

To achieve fast charging, three aspects of support are required. First of all, the mobile phone must support the fast charging protocol.

There are many fast-charging protocols, such as PD fast charging, supported by Apple, Android, and most laptops, and Qualcomm's QC fast charging, which is only supported by Android models. Some protocols are private, such as OPPO's VOOC flash charging, which is only used for its mobile phone. If the mobile phone does not support these protocols, the data cable and charger are useless.

Secondly, the data line must meet the standard of the agreement.

Faster charging speed, of course, is not achieved out of thin air. High speed requires high current or high voltage (or even both), so there are higher requirements for the carrying capacity of the data line. If the carrying capacity of the wire is not up to the standard, we cannot achieve fast charging either.

Finally, the charging head must support the corresponding protocol.

It's elementary. To support PD fast charging, use a charging head that supports PD fast charging; to support QC fast charging, use a charging head that supports QC fast charging. If the charging head does not even support the protocol, it will not get up quickly.

Take the iPhone 12 as an example; it supports the PD fast charging protocol. This protocol was developed by the USB-IF standardization organization, whose members include companies such as Google, Apple, and Qualcomm. And a joint meeting is held every year to provide certification for various devices that support the PD protocol. This is one of the most versatile protocols among digital devices, and it is supported by everything from Apple to Android to laptops to NS game consoles.

The PD fast charging protocol has many gears, and the iPhone 12 supports up to 20W.

Let's recall what we said before, and then think about this question: what happens if you use Apple's previous 5V1A charging head and USB-L data cable when the iPhone supports 20W fast charging now? Can it be fast-charged?

Of course not.

Because the 5V1A charging head and the USB-L data cable do not support PD20W fast charging, if you use such a head and cable, you can only achieve the ultimate slow charge of 5W.

To achieve 20W fast charging, you must use a C-L data cable and a charger that supports PD20W.
